Support ARS

Please join the Arizona Repertory Singers as we proudly celebrate our 2017-2018 Concert Season. Hailed by audiences throughout Southern Arizona for its blend, technical precision and vocal artistry, ARS is a rigorously auditioned and trained community of volunteer singers that has been a Tucson treasure for 33 years. We share the belief that there is nothing more transformative than the human voice lifted in song.

The second season under the direction of our highly accomplished Music Director, Dr. Elliot Jones, promises to be a wonderful mix of musical tradition and innovation. Our 2017-2018 concert season will feature extraordinary music. In December we will present the world premiere of “Festival of Lights” by New York composer Karen Siegel. We will also perform holiday favorites and a work known as the “Mona Lisa of Renaissance music,” Ave Maria, Virgo Serena by Josquin des Prez. In keeping with our commitment to present the best new choral music, we will perform Will Todd’s gorgeous I am changed, composed last year, and the ethereal Stars by Eriks Esenvalds, which calls for choristers to play tuned wine glasses as they sing, creating a stunning aural effect.

In April 2018 we will present two performances of Arthur Honegger’s unique oratorio King David with chamber orchestra, vocal soloists, and guest narrator Grayson Hirst. The range of musical styles in this work is extraordinary – Gregorian chant, early 20th century modernist dissonance, and jazz. There are theatrical elements as well, including the off-stage voice of the Witch of Endor, and the character of David sung first by a boy soprano, and later by an adult tenor.

ARS enriches the community in which we live with performances that benefit local charitable and community organizations. For the fourth consecutive year, we have been invited to perform for students from Tucson area Title 1 schools through a sponsorship by Act One – a not-for-profit organization that engages students from underserved schools in arts learning opportunities. ARS has been selected by Act One as their only choral arts partner. Over the last four years, we have presented concerts to more than 1,275 students and expect to sing for 500 more this season.

ARS was also invited by Patronato San Xavier to perform two concerts at the Mission in April 2017 benefiting the Patronato’s ongoing efforts to restore this historical landmark.

ARS has a reputation for choral artistry that flourished under the guidance of our resplendent Music Director for 25 years, Dr. Jeffry Jahn. Our mission continues to expand under the musical direction of Dr. Elliot Jones. He envisions a future for ARS that features an even greater commitment to the choral culture of our community with more … singers, venues, ambitious performances with local arts organizations and more outreach to those who have yet to experience the joy of live choral music.

Ticket sales fund only a small portion of our vision to present quality choral music, or choral works with orchestra and soloists, which enhances our diverse cultural heritage in Tucson. Become a valued partner by contributing to the mission, and future success of ARS. Your generosity will complete the vision.
